exhibition: treble, the sculpture center, ny, 2004, curated by regine basha
the sculptures in the series 'letter forms' are based on the wave form
images created by speaking or singing the letters of the alphabet into
a computer. these images were then drawn in pencil and constructed in
3-D using wooden dowels, embroidery thread, glue, and polyurethane. the
consonants are all painted a pale blue, while the vowels are colored in
relation to rimbaud's poem 'the alchemy of the verb' - black, white, red, blue
and green. a set of spoken vowels were originally shown at the stadt galerie
in saarbrucken germany as part of the resonanzen exhibition. a larger set of sung vowels was shown at gallery e/static in 2004 as part of the solo exhibition cups into clouds.
each sculpture is approximately 8" - 12" long.
